Evam Youth Forum constantly seek newer ways of exploring and looking at the world of theatre, and thereby question its own understanding of the performing arts. In its search for a new language of theatre, it seeks to break away from the conventions of script-based work, and strive, rather, towards research-based work, which gradually develops over a sustained period of intensive, researched improvisations.

Its work also stems from the desire to re-interpret renowned plays, both Indian and international, in a fresh and contemporary theatrical language. Evam's plays are heavily influenced by visual theatre and are not necessarily bound by language - they rely more on languages of rhythm and movement.

While working, Evam are in a constant flux of exchange with people from a range of different backgrounds from fine arts, philosophy, science, architecture, video arts and music, among others. Although based in Mumbai, Evam frequently interacts with serious and committed youth from other cities in India. Breaking away from the conventions of the proscenium-arch theatre, Evam performs in alternative spaces such as restaurants, pubs, art galleries, cafes, parks, libraries and even in people's homes.

Evam travel extensively all over India to different cities and states, enabling its young artistes to interact with and be influenced by various sub-cultures. In its research too, it regularly borrows from other cultures, traditions and forms of performance. It believes in drawing from traditional and indigenous Indian art forms, so that our work today is derived from and reflects its cultural heritage.
